Evaluation
Researching old products to help aid me in making my own was very useful as it gave me an insight on how to deliver a well rounded published piece. Looking at old products helped give me knowledge on how to layout the page for my written article. It also helped me learn on how to address the audience. Peer feedback helped because it showed me the errors I had made and I knew what to do next to improve my work. I had to change a few things around such additional information in the article and new layout features such as screenshots. Re-drafting my written piece's allowed me to input improvements where needed. For example my article was aimed for a wide age ranged audience but I noticed that the wording was a little too complicated for a younger audience and so adjusted it in a way that allowed it to be understood by all ages.
Creating a pre production portfolio was good as it allowed me to clearly see what steps I had to make in order to complete my written pieces. It also showed me what props or photos I may need in order to complete the task. During production I had to alter an image so that the Q&A section of my work would have a suitable background that kept within the theme of the Legend of Zelda. What I did was I had to edit the picture I had used for the review so that the main character was not in the image. I needed to this because otherwise, text over the image would not have been clearly seen. I played around in photoshop, using tools like the clone tool, and managed to remove him from the image. This made it so a had a good picture for the background of my second written piece. All of my work was stored on a computer in well named folders which made it so I knew where everything was. Overall I enjoyed the task and think I did the best I could in creating two written pieces that did justice for one of my favourite games.

Review - Edit for parents
The Legend of Zelda games are very popular with a wide range of different age groups. One of it's main target audiences, children, can benefit from these games quite a lot as it can teach children many different skills. Reaction time and co-ordination are the key skills that children can gain from their experiences with the Legend of Zelda games. The games main gameplay when fighting is not just a simple button bashing process, it's much more skilled, requiring the player to pay attention and press the correct button at the right time to be able to win. This can help stimulate development in these skills from a young age.
The games also include a bright and unique artistic feel throughout by including vibrant colours, beautiful music and an indulging story that may introduce young players too their first ever real story telling.

Review - Edit for Kids
Intro
Nintendo’s game The Legend of Zelda has been enjoyed by children and adults for nearly twenty years. Its high quality means that it is as fresh and exciting as new games that are coming into the gaming market today. It is set in the kingdom of Hyrule and the main aim is to rescue the Princess and to bring peace to the land. Along the way there are many interesting characters to keep you entertained and make you just want to keep on playing. Although the mission is simple there are many quests to conquer in order to complete the game.
Graphics
The new version of the game has much better graphics as improved technology has made the characters and settings bigger and brighter. However designers have worked hard to make sure that the new graphics stay true to the original look and feel of the game. Although the graphics have been worked on there are still some areas that don’t look as good as they could have such as the flat stairs.
Gameplay
The controls on this game are very different from the old version. It makes gameplay easier by having touch screen buttons for items that need to be quickly selected. The old controller was a bit awkward and difficult to use which is why it’s a good thing that they changed it around. The 3D is a really nice added touch to this version of the game as it makes the whole world more interactive. The only problem with the 3D is that it doesn’t work well when moving the 3DS around for the slingshot or bow. The screen goes all blurry and makes it hard to play the game, but other than that the gameplay is really easy and smooth to use.
Music
The music in the game is very good at setting the right mood at the right time. If you’re in a dungeon the music sets a scary sort of tone and if you’re in an open field the music is relaxing and sets a happy mood. The music is the same as the old version of the game and so to players of the old game the music will bring back good memories.
Verdict
While it’s not as good as the old game, the upgrades that this one has makes it very close. While there are a few problems it’s still a very enjoyable experience. It’s also good to know that the new generation of gamers can still enjoy a game made twenty years ago. Overall I think that this game is amazing and anyone with a 3DS should get it.

Journalism 2, Task 1C
Legal, Moral & Ethical Issues
I don’t think that I will come across any legal, moral or ethical issues as my magazine is just about video games and sharing my own enjoyment with other people. My magazine won’t be promoted and so I see no reason that any complaints wold be made to the ASA (Advertising Standards Association). The same goes for OFCOM, there will be nothing on either television or radio talking about my magazine and so there should be no complaints. Finally, I highly doubt that there will be any problems reported to the PCC (Press Complaints Commission) regarding my magazine as its only content will be video game related and won’t mention any subject in which people may take offence from.
To prevent any copyright issues I will contact any company who's creations I may be borrowing and ask If I have consent to use their images/games for educational purposes.

Task 1b
Proposal – 2 linked pieces of journalism
Target audience; Gamers, (Casual, hardcore) 14 – 35 years old
Purpose; the purpose of my product is to inform and entertain.
Platform(s): My product will be a published piece, intended for a printed magazine.
Synopsis/summary of ideas; my idea was that I would design a gaming magazine which would cover many genres of games. It will include reviews, interviews, a calendar of release dates, fan art and much more. The target audience is quite broad as I’m targeting it to any gamer, from people who play games on their phones to people who play their home console on a regular basis.
My main idea is for a written review of one of my favorite games, I will voice my opinion on what the game did well and what didn't work so well. This will go alongside my next written piece which will be a question and answer with another fan of the game. This will include questions that I have written to ask the person. he questions will include things such as the players first impressions, opinions on graphics and game play.
Images/graphics/interactive elements; the printed version will obviously not be able to include videos but I could include some pen and paper games with different gaming mascots as the themes. If it was posted on a blog, I would include videos to coincide with the written up versions of reviews/interviews.
Resources; I won’t need many resources as most of it will be written so I’ll need a computer or a notebook and pen. If I shoot some videos I will need a recording camera. None of this will cost me anything as I have all of the equipment anyways.

Board Meeting Feedback
Blog Comments
- Add target audience 15-30 (?)
I may use these suggested target audience but I feel that I would like to try and make my product with a much broader target audience.
- Add images to help convey the idea
I will take this on board and will add images soon. I will also include some images on the final piece.
- Gaming was a good subject as it covers a wide target audience and many genres.
I am happy with this comment as this was my aim.
- Needs a definite idea
I will evaluate the options I have and will choose a suitable product to use/write about.

Comparison
Publishing Comparison
Although traditional techniques for printing are now outdated, a few are still used. The letterpress method is still widely used in printing today alongside laser printing. Though they are still used often, there are still a bunch of cons to argue against the use of them. Printing requires many resources in order to be complete and this is where the problems begin. As we continue with our lives, creating new technologies and such they all derive from a main power source which is in fact fossil fuels. These fossil fuels are what’s used to make the ink that is used for printing and there is a limited supply of it. This is a problem as our society is run by things powered by these no renewable fuels and so is printing. Another major factor concerning printing is that the paper used has to come from somewhere and so it comes from the many trees that are cut down in order for paper to be made. This is a big environmental issue that has been of concern for some time.
While digital publishing has grown considerably more popular, it has started to push these methods more and more out of use. One of the reasons for this is the fact that publishing things online doesn’t need any paper or ink as it’s all done digitally. This also helps save money as you’re not needing paper or ink at all. Digital publishing has gotten increasingly more popular as publishing content online only takes a minute and is there within an instant for the public to see. Also where as a printed paper is only available for the people that are near places to which the paper is distributed, posting a paper online opens it up to absolutely anyone in the world. Also if a mistake is made, the creator can easily edit it and correct the mistakes made. One con is that maybe not everyone owns a computer or a means of connecting to the internet and won’t be able to see the content. Although someone they know may have a smart phone or a way to connect. Portability is another pro as it means that you can access the content from inside, outside and pretty much anywhere.
